Part Two: 2018 Challenge Choices

Part Two: 2018 Challenge Choices

I’ve suffered some choice paralysis while making preliminary lists of books I want to read for the 2018 Reading Challenge.

Here are my current choices for the second set of challenge categories.

Sleuthing (a mystery):  The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

This is supposed to be a page-turning thriller with plot twists galore.  This one is being touted as the Gone Girl/Girl on the Train for 2017.

Finding Love (a romance)   Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews

Despite the cover art being a modern version of the bodice ripper,  I’m excited to see the blend of action and romance unfold.

Youthful Notions (young adult)  Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

This is a coming of age / young romance between two teenage boys from Texas.

Favorite Color (green)  The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo  by Taylor Jenkins Reid   Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to reveal the secrets and scandals that have taken place in her glamorous life.

Lost in Translation (a translated book)  The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden by Jonas Jonasson translated by Rachel Wilson-Broyles  I loved the book the 100-year-old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared.  Based on a couple of blurbs and reviews it looks like this book uses similar devices to show how actions and history shape the present.   I love a big story arch that spans decades but keeps you tethered to the present.  I have high hopes for this one.

Thanks for the Memories (a memoir) Born A Crime by Trevor Noah has been on my to-read-list for awhile now.   Trevor was born to a white Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother at a time when such a union was punishable by five years in prison. This memoir reveals the internal and external struggles he has faced.
